The Magic of Perspective

Happy New Year and welcome to my new Blog!
I’m sitting here in my office looking out my window at the foot of snow we got in the past 24 hours! It’s beautiful and it’s heavy and wet! Looking out at the trees, the snow clings to the branches and it looks like a fairy tale winter wonderland.
However, if you have to shovel and drive in it, it’s a pain!
Perspective!
Depending on how you look at it, the snow is a blessing and magical or it is a struggle and a necessary evil of living in the climate we do.
So why perspective?
As I learn and grow, my perspectives change. I’m constantly amazed at how each of us can have such a widely different perspectives on the same situation. Our perspectives are colored by our temperament, our upbringing, brain wiring, preferences, passions, experiences and so much more. No wonder no two perspectives are the same.
I’m also consistently reminded of how often in our society today, we can’t share our perspectives for fear of being cancelled or criticized and in some cases even brutally ridiculed. We need to get back to the point where we see the value of different perspectives and see how we can use those differing points of view to connect, learn and grow instead of divide, judge and isolate!
In my blog, I’ll have many topics that we can ponder and discuss together. Over the coming months I’ll write about Parenting, Couples & Marriage, ADHD and how it impacts parenting and relationships and so much more.
I’ll give you my unvarnished opinion and information I have gathered in my travels as a mother of 4 kids with ADHD and a spouse to someone with ADHD. And you’ll hear some “interesting” stories from my own experiences.
My kids have had a lot of struggles in a variety of areas in their lives so “my loss is your gain”! You get to reap the benefits of the knowledge and experience I have gained in dealing with the many trials and tribulations we have faced.
In addition, you get to hear my perspective on what works, what I would have done differently and how conventional wisdom and updated parenting and relationship techniques have informed and changed my perspective.
As I say to my kids – I’ve done everything right . . . AND . . . I’ve done everything wrong but above all, I adore them and it’s been an amazing ride so far!
Here’s to a wonderful 2023!!
